OBITUARY of Sally Murphy Shaver
(Obituary provided by Sissy Shaver Williams of Jasper, TX. Believed to be published in The Jasper News Boy [1966].) ------------------------- Mrs. Shaver, 100 died of Illness; Services today. Bronson (spl)--Funeral services for Mrs. Sally Murphy Shaver, 100, of Bronson will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, in Bronson Baptist Church. The Rev. Noel Hammock, pastor of Little Flock Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Bronson Cemetary under the direction of Starr Funeral Home of Hemphill. Grandsons will be pallbears. Mrs. Shaver died at 1 p.m., Tuesday, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Myrtlee Walker, after a long illness. She was a native of Polk County and had lived in Bronson 40 years. She was a member of the Little Flock Baptist Church. Survivors are three sons Bud, Joe, and Louis Shaver, all of Jasper; two daughters, Mrs. Bertie Goines of Jasper and Mrs. Myrtlee Walker of Bronson; three brothers, Roy and John Lowe and Sam Murphy, all of Cleveland; 26 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren and a number of great-great grandchildren. -------------------------

Published in The Jasper News Boy [1984].) ------------------------------ Joe Shavers, Sr. retired butcher JASPER--Joe, Shavers, Sr., 75, of Jasper died Friday at Jasper Memorial Hospital after an illness. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at J.O. Stringer & Grif- fin Funeral Home in Jasper with burial in Bronson Ceme- tary in Sabine County. A native and longtime resi- dent of Burkeville, Texas, he lived in Jasper 40 years and was a retired butcher. Survivors include four sons, John Riley Shavers, Robert Earl Shavers, Curtis Wayne Shavers and Joe Shavers, Jr.; four daughters, Mary Jo Reid, all of Jasper, Dorothy Ford of Buna, Kathy Ford of Cleveland and Bonnie Taylor of Macon, Ga.; a brother, Bud Shavers of Jasper; two sisters, Myrtlee Walker of Bronson and Bertie Goins of Jasper; 23 grandchil- dren; and 22 great-grandchil- dren. --------------------------------

Burial followed in Bronson Cemetary. She was a 20 year resident of Jasper. She is survived by her husband, Joe Shavers, Sr. of Jasper; four sons, John Riley Shavers, Robert Earl Shavers, Curtis Wayne Shavers, all of Jasper, and Joe Shavers, Jr. of Macon, Ga.; four daughters, Mary Jo Reid of Jasper, Dorothy Ford of Buna, Kathy Ford of San Augustine, Bonnie Taylor of Macon, Ga.; one sister, Thiro Mae Wood of Beaumont; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------

OBITUARY of Steven Ward and Ernest Arnold

-------------------------------------------- Two former Jasper residents, National Guard members who were driving in a military jeep to a meeting in Houston, were killed about 6 a.m. Sept 19 in a fiery highway accident near Cleveland. Theeir jeep was in collision with a car that had pulled out into their path and the jeep, in turn, was struck from behind by a heavy truck, according to investigators' reports. A spare can of gasoline mounted ont he jeep ruptured and exploded, officials said. Double funeral services for Staff Sgt. Ernest L. Arnold, 30, and Specialist 4 Steven Paul Ward, 27, who had moved recently to Nacogdoches, were Monday at Stringer and Griffin Funeral Home here with Rev. Fr. Ron Foshage and Rev. Lester Fatheree officiating, followed by military graveside rites at North Baptist Church Cemetery. Both were members of A Battery, 1st Batallion, 133rd Field Artillery, Detachment 1, headquartered in Nacogdoches. Arnold, a Port Arthur native and a long-time Jasper resident, was an NCO in charge of training, and had moved to Nacogdoches 2 1/2 years ago. Ward, a lifelong Jasper resident, was unit administrator and had moved there a year ago. Arnold is survived by his wife, Julie Beddingfield Arnold, and children Dustin Ray Arnold, Jeremy Lorrane Arnold and Leanne Michelle Arnold, all of Nacogdoches; his mother, Mary Rhame of Jasper; a brother, Staff Sgt Anthony Arnold of Jasper; and two sister, Pamela Woosley of Belleville and Vickie Arnold of Vidor. Ward is survivied by his wife, Carla Shaver Ward, and sons Paul Brandon Ward and Steven Zachary Ward, all of Nacogdoches; his parents, Burl Ward and Lillie Cochran Ward of Jasper; brothers Billy Ray Ward of Washington, Robert Earl Ward and Sgt. Jeffery Lynn Ward of Jasper; and grandparents, Mary and Darrell McMillian of Jasper. --------------------------------------------

He was a native of Fields, La. Surviving are a son, Allan Murphy of Silsbee; a stepson, Donald Jacobs of Deer Park; sisters Claudia Casey of Beaumont, Cladye Casey of Grand Prairie, Edna Himmelrich and Licinda Moulder of Silsbee; and three grandchildren. --------------------------------------------

She was a native of Anacoco, La. Instead of floral tributes, the family had requested that donations could be made to Trinity Episcopal Church in Jasper. Survivors include her son, Leroy Keller of Jasper; a sister, Ida M.
